2018 has been a very good year for Liam Foudy. He was selected to Team Orr in the CHL Top Prospects Game in Guelph on January 25th, where he ranked in the top 5 in both on and off-ice testing. Since returning from the showcase, he has exploded for 7 goals and 4 assists in just 7 games for London.
This past weekend the Knights took on the Erie Otters, Sudbury Wolves and Guelph Storm in three consecutive days. With six huge points on the table, it was the Scarborough, ON native that stole the show. He scored important goals in Friday and Saturday’s home victories and once again demonstrated his talents in Guelph, where he scored the opening goal and the overtime winner.
He was named the OHL’s player of the week for his efforts, but the 17-year-old forward is more focused on his team’s success than individual accolades.
“They were three big games…it’s a tight race in the standings right now, so it was nice to get the wins.”
Just days before the CHL Top Prospects game, NHL Central Scouting ranked Foudy 91st on their list of top draft-eligible North American skaters. However, after impressing many with his strong testing scores and recent scoring streak, the second-year Knight’s draft stock very well may have shot up. He certainly knows what it’ll take to make the jump to the pros.
“I’ve got to get stronger for the next level; the guys are a lot bigger.”
After moving their veterans at the trade deadline in return for some talented young players, the London Knights are now the third-youngest team in the league with an average age of 17.65. Foudy was the Knights first-round selection in the 2016 OHL Entry Draft and has the potential to be the spearhead of this very exciting young group of players.
Despite their level of experience, the new-look Knights are fighting for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Foudy’s line, alongside fellow 2016 picks Billy Moskal and Nathan Dunkley have particularly enjoyed success. They have combined for 18 points in their last 4 games.
The Knights currently sit in 4th place in Western Conference, meaning they will possess home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Getting a chance to face off against the league’s best will be an invaluable experience for this team.
“The fact that we’re winning games with a young squad is a good sign for the future. We’ll have a good run in the future and even this season”
